2017 SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE: SESSION I: JULY 31 – AUGUST 11

This class is best for B/C Levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced Ballet, PrePointe and Point for students age 10 and up. Make-up classes are possible with pre-registration and permission by the instructor.

$400 Members / $425 Non-Members

MONDAY – FRIDAY (2 WEEKS)

ARRIVE & WARM UP:          9:00 – 9:30 (this is not a class, but students must attend)

TECHNIQUE:                     9:30 – 11:30

POINTE & PREPOINTE:      11:45-12:45

LUNCH BREAK:                   1:00 – 2:30 (no charge for this time)

CHARACTER/MODERN:      2:30-3:30

BALLET REPERTORY:           3:30-4:15

Summer Intensive Dance 2017
SESSIONS:

Dress code:

Girls –  convertible ballet tights, any color leotard and matching skirt, hair must be secured off face and neck, pink ballet slippers, pointe shoes or demi pointes all sewn, character shoes and character skirt. Hair supplies, including; hair nets, hair pins, hair elastics, hair spray and/or gel.

Boys – boy’s footless tights, white under convertible tights or white socks, any color form fitting T-shirt, dance belt, white ballet slippers, character shoes, hair must be off the face.

The following is needed by all students:

  • Dance bag
  • Large towel
  • Thera band
  • Warm up clothes (sweat pants and/or legs warmers)
  • Hair necessities
  • Neosporin and band-aids
  • Nail clippers/scissors
  • Nail file
  • Needle and strong thread
  • Healthy lunch and a fresh fruit snack
  • On Thursdays the instructor will take the students to the Farmers Market on the Village Green. Please bring money for lunch or purchases at the market.
  • One afternoon a week the instructor plans to take the students to the Clinton Pool after lunch (weather pending). On the day prior notices will be sent home for parents/ guardians. On these particular day the students are to be picked up at the Clinton Pool.  This helps break up the monotony of spending weeks in a the studio while building camaraderie between students.
  • If it is a warm or sunny day, please pack appropriate sun protection (ex. sunscreen, hat, umbrella, etc)

APPAREL:

The following can be purchased locally at The Dance Store in New Hartford.

  • Pre Ballet & Tap: Light pink leotard, white socks, pink ballet slippers and black tap shoes.
  • Foundation: Light blue leotard, white socks, pink ballet slippers and black tap shoes.
  • B/C Ballet: Mulberry leodard – pink tights and pink ballet slippers
  • D/E/F Ballet: (NEW Leotard Color TBD by Ms. Emily)- pink tights and pink ballet slippers
  • Boys Ballet: white t-shirt, black footless tights or black fitted shorts and white tights beneath or thin white socks and white ballet shoes.
  • Tap & Jazz: Beige tap shoes, beige jazz shoes, plain leotard with beige or black tights (girls) or shorts (boys).
  • Musical Theater: Beige tap shoes, beige jazz shoes, plain leotard with beige tights (girls), shorts (boys).
  • Highland Dance (all classes): leotard or fitted t-shirt, close fitting leggings/shorts or tights, socks, black ghillies or black ballet slippers. Some smaller size ghillies are available to borrow. Contact the teacher before class starts to inquire.

If your child didn’t attend Summer Dance Intensive classes, please download our KAC Dance Student Form , or pick one up at the KAC to update records.

Return to the business office on or before the first day of classes to ensure you or your child is properly registered and prepared.

This class inspires 3 1/2 – 5 year olds in a creative exploration of characters through music, movement, mime and rhythms while creating spatial awareness.

This class introduces early principles of Ballet to boys and girls. Foundation uses a creative base of technical elements it expands the student’s familiarity with ballet, modern and character.

B-F Ballet: Material establishes and expands upon a firm basis from both the classical and historical aspects of classical ballet using the Vaganova method.

Soldier Class for Nutcracker

This class is best for students in grades 3rd – 6th. The class will prepare students to be soldiers in the upcoming Nutcracker performance on December 1st.

Dress Requirements:
White tights
Black Ballet Slippers
Boys: must have royal blue Under Armour T-Shirt
Girls: must have royal blue leotard

The first costume fitting will be announced by the instructor once class has started.

This class will run October 8th – November 26th.

**** Due to a limited number of soldier costumes and roles,

this class will cap at 16 students.

Musical Theater        

For dancers in grades 6 and up

Designed for more advanced students with a strong emphasis on dramatic expression along with technical ability.  A minimum of two classes per week is strongly suggested.

Adult & Teen Ballet

This class is designed for beginning and intermediate level dancers who want to build strength, stretch, and practice lyrical dance. More than one dance lesson per week is not required. This class is a perfect fit for Jazz/Tap dancers who want to improve their technique.

Discover Highland

Ages 5 – 10

This class will explore Highland dancing in a fun and relaxed group-oriented setting. Various traditional and non-traditional choreographies will be learned, determined by the group’s interests.

Beginner and Intermediate Highland

This class is for dancers ages 7-adult; new to Highland dancing or with some experience.

Highland Dancing is an athletic form of dance and is an excellent way to strengthen your muscles and your mind.  Students will learn traditional Highland dances to develop coordination and improve stamina.
